Contouring Facial Fillers Q&A
Sometimes known as the liquid facelift, dermal fillers are used to refresh and restore your face for a plump, more youthful look. Targeting the cheeks, jaw, and chin with hyaluronic acid fillers has long-lasting effects that rejuvenate the treated areas from within.
Discover everything you need to know about facial contouring with dermal fillers below.
What is facial contouring with fillers?
Non-surgical facial contouring involves using dermal fillers to add volume to different areas of the face. It is usually used to enhance the jawline, the cheeks, and the chin preventing sagging and rejuvenating the skin.
Treatments are quick and relatively pain-free, only taking around 30 – 45 minutes.
What types of filler are used?
There are a variety of dermal fillers that can be used to contour the face. Hyaluronic acid is the most common active ingredient in most of them. Juvederm and Restylane are popular brands for facial contouring.
How long does contouring filler last?
Results from facial contouring treatments will be visible for 6-12 months. However, top-up treatments can be scheduled to keep your desired shape and make the results last even longer.
It will take around two weeks to see the full effects of your treatment, once any swelling has gone and the fillers have settled. Fillers naturally degrade over time as your metabolism begins to break down, however, they tend to last longer in areas with less frequent movement such as the cheeks.
How much will it change the shape of my face?
During our 30s we begin to lose volume from certain areas of the face including the jaw line, the cheeks, and the chin. In fact, studies show that by age 35 most people will have lost 5-10% of the fat in their faces, with a further 5-10% every 5-10 years afterward. This can cause a sagging and drooping effect which adds to the effects of aging.
Facial contouring with dermal fillers replaces that lost volume to give you a more fresh, youthful appearance. The treatment visibly improves your facial profile, creating plumpness and reducing sagging in the targeted areas.
How long does it take to recover?
As with most dermal fillers, recovery time is minimal. There may be some swelling and bruising for a few days afterward but this can be easily managed with rest and over-the-counter painkillers. Most patients are able to go back to normal activities directly after the treatment, with full recovery expected within two days maximum.
What’s the difference between Botox and dermal fillers?
Although both are used to combat the signs of aging, Botox and dermal fillers are different treatments with very different results.
Botox is a neuromodulator that relaxes the muscles to prevent wrinkles from worsening. Once treated the muscles can no longer contract and tighten which helps to stop them from deepening and also softens their appearance.
Dermal fillers are mostly used to restore volume in depleted areas such as the jawline, cheeks, and eye areas. Using hyaluronic acid, dermal fillers also rejuvenate and rehydrate the skin for a more youthful appearance.
Botox and dermal fillers can be used together to create a refreshed, youthful look and hold wrinkles at bay.
How much does facial contouring with fillers cost?
Dermal fillers can cost anywhere from £200 to over £1000 depending on which areas are treated and how many treatments you need. Before your treatment, your aesthetic practitioner will discuss your options and how many treatments it will take to get your desired results.
